As a consumer you have a choice to make between being on an Auto Fill Plan or calling in for fuel as you feel you need more. Some consumers feel that if they put themselves on Auto Fill that a heating oil company will deliver more fuel than they need to, just to get into the customers pocket book. This impression is created by the way most heating oil companies schedule deliveries.

The mass majority of oil deliveries are made based on a degree day system, in which a delivery is initiated after a certain span of degree days have elapsed. Often this will result in a large delivery right at the end of the winter or early spring when the need for heat in the home has dropped off to nothing. This gives the consumer the impression that the heating oil company was just trying to get one last delivery in.
